What's within you?
Where does your creativity come from?
Is it something that you make out of things outside of yourself
or is it created from that which is within you?
When you create is it just something you do
or is it part of who you are?
When I think about the process I go through in writing songs,
the inspiration for the song, the ideas that form into the lyrics,
the flow of the melody, they all come from something that was
first inside of me.
Does that mean the song can is always about me?
It is not that the song has to be about me, but that the frame of
reference is going to come from my experiences, my knowledge,
how I see things, my attitudes, etc. I cannot write from someone
else's point of view; I can try to see your point of view but I cannot
fully see from your eyes because I can't use your eyes the same as
you can't use my eyes.
Even when we look at an author or a painter, they create there is a
part of them in every one of their creations. When we try to create
from outside ourselves, from something not our own, we can make
something but it is lifeless, it "flat." I can make a copy of what you
create but that is all it will be, a copy of you.
If you want your "creation" to have life you must create first from
within you then release it to have life. The same way that the Master
Created all things from within Himself and gave it life, so we must
give a part of ourselves in each creation we make.
